1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten young bridesmaids who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and the other five were foolish. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but didn’t bring oil for them. 4 But the wise ones took their lamps and also brought containers of oil. 5 “When the groom was late in coming, they all became drowsy and went to sleep. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Look, the groom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 “Then all those bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. 8 But the foolish bridesmaids said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps have gone out.’ 9 “But the wise bridesmaids replied, ‘No, because if we share with you, there won’t be enough for our lamps and yours. We have a better idea. You go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were gone to buy oil, the groom came. Those who were ready went with him into the wedding. Then the door was shut. 11 “Later the other bridesmaids came and said, ‘Lord, lord, open the door for us.’ 12 “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore, keep alert, because you don’t know the day or the hour.
Points to Ponder
Many of us have started a business with a clear objective in mind; we gather all that we think we need for the moment; and start on our merry way meticulously waiting for the perfect opportunity. But sometimes its arrival may take a bit longer than planned. And like the foolish virgins in this passage, when it does present itself, we have run through all our allotted resources and cannot seize it. So we scrambled to pull things together and in the process it literally passes us by and the door is shut
If this sounds like you, you are not alone. The good news is, no matter how long you have been in business or how many opportunities you have missed due to being ill prepared, because you have breath in your body there is still time to become like the wise virgins. It’s going to take some changing of habits which maybe difficult at times. But it will be worth it.
- Think about the current status of your business. What is one goal you would like to accomplish over the next 2 weeks? Note make sure that is is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Time-sensitive)
- Identify what resources you currently have that can help you active this goal.
- What resources do you need in order to achieve this goal?
- Identify what you need to have in place in the event your goal takes longer than 2 weeks to achieve.
- Create your 2 week action plan.
- Execute your plan
Awesome and amazing God, you know what we need before we ask it. Thank you for your wisdom and love. Please forgive us for starting businesses, projects, initiatives, ministries and everything else without first counting up the cost. For so long we have been like the foolish virgins running out of resources before you choose to show up. Forgive us for this oh Lord. And help us to lean and depend on the wisdom and understanding that your Holy Spirit gives. So that we will be able to accomplish those things you have willed for us to do for your glory and honor. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN

I am well equipped to achieve my goals no matter how long they take.
